  • As the name suggests, Stock charts in excel is used to see high-low values of variables in a data set. As the name suggests, it is mainly used in the stock market to track the stocks of different companies or stock's high-low price on different dates/intervals.
  • Below is the data source that we are going to use in Excel: You need a Date column which should be the first column. Then this should be followed by a Open, High, Low, and Close column. This is the exact order that needs to be followed in order to create the Candlestick Chart.
  • The first step in creating a High-Low-Close stock market chart is to enter the data into the worksheet. Enter the data into cells A1 to E6 as shown in the image. Column A is labeled 'Date.' Column B has the heading 'Volume Traded.'

Because the chart series order will change automatically with the original data changing, you can sort the original data first if you want to sort chart.

To create the chart Select your data – including all of the data series and labels Insert – Recommended Charts – All Charts – Stock Charts – High Low Close Hit ok and Excel will create your basic chart.

2. Click Data tab, and go to Sort & Filter group, and select the sort order you need. See screenshot:

3. Then in the popped out dialog, make sure the Expand the select is checked, and click Sort button. See screenshot:

Use an additional data series plotted on the secondary axis to add values tothe high-low lines.

The formulas in column D define the mid-pointposition between the 2 lines. The formulas in column E define the actualdistance between the 2 lines and are also used as the category labels forthe secondary x axis. Whilst the secondary x axis is not displayed thevalues can be used automatically by the data labels.
Using the chart wizard create a line chart based on the range A1:D13

Double click the Hi-Lo data series and change the series to the secondaryaxis.

Use the chart options dialog to enable the secondary x axis.

Use the Source data dialog do set the secondary category axis labels to therange E2:E13.

Format the secondary x axis so the tick marks and labels are not displayed.

Apply data labels to the Hi-Lo series. Display the Category values.(forolder version of Excel that's display the Show Label option).

Double click the data labels and change the label position to Center.

Final tidy up the formatting ofthe high-low lines. Set the background font to Opaque so the values are notobscured by the lines. Remove the extradata series from the legend.
