Z axis overspeed error on Bright 504 Z axis overspeed error on Bright 504 14 years, 2 months ago | I'm getting this error and it's an unrecoverable one, meaning I have to shut down all the way and start over. That's a pain, as you all know. The strange thing is that it is occurring during MANUAL joystick usage, and when the movement is NOT in the Z axis. And the machine is NOT at the Z limits upper or lower on travel. It just now occurred; probe in XY plane, about 8 inches from table, about in center of travel area, moving in X axis and I got a Z axis area requiring shutdown. It has happened several times recently, but NEVER before. I have no idea what is going on. Nothing has been changed. It was calibrated in May; error only occurring since last week or so. Any ideas???? Thanks. It takes a lot of time to shut all the way down and restart and when someone is standing here waiting on you, it is NOT cool......... |

| What's the error code? It could anything from a dirty scale to short in the harness. |
Re: Z axis overspeed error on Bright 504 14 years, 2 months ago | I don't have the error up there right now, dwade. I called Mitutoyo and they told me to take off the -Z- axis cover and clean the scale with alcohol. I have done that, but haven't used the CMM yet since then. I don't remember an error number, but it said -Z- axis overtravel error; disconnect the CMM and restart, or something like that. I'll write it all down next time, if there is a next time, and I hope there isn't. It has done it several times today, during execution, manual movement, and none of those times was it moving in the -Z- axis. If it happens again, I'll post the error, but I will have to call Mitutoyo back. Cleaning is the only thing I can fix on my own. Thanks. |
Re: Z axis overspeed error on Bright 504 14 years, 2 months ago | Well, I did okay for two days then I am getting the error again. I need to call them back I guess. |
Re: Z axis overspeed error on Bright 504 14 years, 2 months ago | I called them back about the overspeed error still occurring even after cleaning. Has the Charlotte, NC service center closed? They are quoting me air fare of $1,000 and food, hotel, rental car, etc. I am in Northwest SC and the techs have made the 2-hr ± drive up until now. Any light shed on what has changed would be appreciated. Thanks, all. |

| The CMM service rep in your area is Scott Downs in the Winston-Salem, NC area. They must have to fly someone in because of Scott's schedule. Mark |
